On St. Patrick's Day, 2003 Pastor Sloane's best friend and classmate was found murdered inside her burning Chicago suburb home-her car missing. The homeless woman whom Lynn had helped out the day before, was found guilty of cutting Lynn's life short, but was also found to be mentally ill and is behind bars for life.  Lynn loved to help serve the poor, homeless and needy, so to honor her memory and her passion to help others in need, Sloane began collecting items for people in need and on the one year anniversary of Lynn's passing, opened up what is called Lynn's Closet.  All items are free for those in need and are available after church services and during Elijah's Soup Kitchen at St. Luke's in Fort Yates.

Lynn's Closet needs:

Any Household item, children's clothing, items for the homeless and items for babies are especially needed.  Cash donations are helpful to help pay for meals at our Soup Kitchen, and items such as diapers, formula and other non perishable items for those trying to make ends meet and the homeless we work with such as soap, toothpaste and shampoo. Checks can be made out to: St. Luke's Special Project Box 612 Fort Yates, ND 58538

If you would like to send an item, our physical address is: 503 South River Road.  Please make sure these are items that are worth more than the postage on the box, as at times we receive donations that are too outdated, old and/or stained. Doing a good thing for others is great but it must be something you yourself would find helpful:-)

Elijah's Soup Kitchen
Through the Food Pantry program we started in the early 90's, another program was started to prepare meals onsite and help feed those who were homeless, elderly, shut-ins and those who were from out of town.  Elijah's Soup Kitchen was born and has grown into a regular outreach of St. Luke's.

Every Wednesday from 11:30-12:30, Elijah's Soup Kitchen feeds anywhere from 35-80 people, depending on the week.  St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fort Yates has also joined us in this endeavor, taking up one of the weeks to serve a hot meal to the community.

During Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have many people from the church donating hams and turkeys, salads and pies as well as their time serving and has helped the congregation put their faith into action.

Due to the heating costs, Lynn's Closet has moved into the church and has items readily available for those who are in need.  A free will donation is accepted but not required for either outreach program.
St. Mary's Guild
The women's group at St. Luke's seeks to serve and support various programs of the church and the community.  The funds they raise go towards the Christmas Gifts that are given to all the children of the church, supporting our Deputies to General Convention, gifts for our High School and College graduates and giving to our youth programs and camps.

We are extremely grateful for their hard work and dedication in showing God's unending love to His people.
